Of pleasant aroma, the fruit of its richness in phenolic compounds, it is formed by a pulp, full of black edible seeds, which provides a succulent sweet taste.

*Red tamarillos are more common than orange-yellow varieties, we produce and supply both.

01. Quality tamarillo

This fruit is also known as tree tomato (because it resembles tomato),
it belongs to the Solanaceae family.

The oval or egg shaped fruit has a dark-red to yellow inside, measuring about 6-8 cm in length and are 4-6 cm wide, weighing about 100 grams.

02. Harvesting

Our tamarillo is sending once have reached an appropriate degree of ripeness. In addition to having the proper colour, °Brix, they are weighted and well cleaned, rinsed and cooled to be sent to the packing house.

Sorting

Tamarillo  is divided into three classes: Extra Class, Class I and Class II.
Also, tree tomatoes are classified according to from diameter to Size Codes A-E (45 – 61 mm) or sized by weight to 1-4 (45 – >125 grams).

Shipping

Air cargo – sea cargo
Although the tamarillo have excellent behaviour and long lifetime trip, they are shipped with the highest level of care and specific temperature control to preserve their flavour, freshness, texture and aroma.

Tamarillo is sour and have a diameter ranging from about 35 – >61 mm (45 – >120 grams)

We comply with the EU quality standards contained in Regulation (EC) No 1580/2007, which specify that imports of fresh fruit and vegetables from third countries must comply with the EU’s general marketing standards or their equivalent.

Packing

Packaging requirements differ by customer and market segment. Your tamarillos will be packed in such a way as to offer proper protection for the produce, guaranteeing the required resistance and the conditions to be transported, always maintaining quality in our products.
Also, developing packing using less natural resources and helps reduce the use of water, energy and the emission of gases that cause the greenhouse effect and the production of volatile organic compounds.
Air cargo: For Europe boxes of 2.5 Kg are used, i.e. for air cargo, 120 boxes (1 euro pallets) are shipped, which equates to 300 kg of fruit.
Sea cargo: Boxes with a capacity of 2,5 kg are used for exports to Europe and USA, i.e. for a 40-foot container, 5500 boxes (23 pallets) are shipped,  which equates to 13,800 kg of tamarillo.

Cold chain

The harvested tamarillos are rinsed and cooled, once a tree tomato enters our network to 5 – 9 °C in the packing station, it never falls outside our controlled temperature specifications (85% relative humidity), this delays the maturation process and prevents the excessive dehydration of the tamarillos, which allows an estimated useful life of 20 days.

World production of tropical fruits has grown in the last decade and predictions are that it will continue to do so. At least, that is what the United Nations Food Organization (FAO) assures in its 2017 fruit market report.
That’s why little by little in Europe, Asia and the USA one more of our exotic fruits has been known, it is the tamarillo – Solanum betaceum – and the consumers can resort to specialized shops and find it easier.
Also known as the tree tomato, Nordic mango or yucca tomato, it is native to Bolivia, Peru and northern Argentina, although it is currently grown in many regions of Colombia, mainly in humid areas, where rainfall is abundant.

Tamarillo is packed with vitamins A, C, E and pro-vitamin A. It has a good source of B-complex vitamins such as niacin, thiamine, and riboflavin. Other nutrients in tamarillo are carbohydrates, protein, fat, calcium, potassium and sodium. It also contains minerals such as phosphorus, manganese, magnesium, copper, zinc and iron.
Aids Weight Loss, it is beneficial for people who want to lose weight. Consumed raw, sprinkled with herbs or in the form of salads, the juice of tamarillo acts as a detoxifier when consumed.
