Also known as Passiflora edulis, is an exotic fruit grown in Colombia. It has a hard, colourful rind, juicy, seed-filled centre, is a nutritious exotic fruit that is gaining popularity because it’s rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and plant compounds that could benefit your customer health.

02. Harvesting

Our passion fruit is sending once have reached an appropriate degree of ripeness, in addition to having the proper colour (mostly green-purple), Brix degrees, they are weighted and well cleaned, protect and cooled to be sent to the packing house.

Sorting

Also, each package must be uniform and contain fruits of the same origin, variety and quality, classified into three classes defined: Extra Class, Class I and Class II. Shipping

Although the passion fruit (passifora edulis) has excellent behaviour in a long lifetime trip, they are shipped with the highest level of care (individually wrapped or plastic bags), and specific temperature control to preserve their flavour, freshness, texture and aroma.

Passion fruit has a diameter ranging from about  D(≤ 56 mm minimum) to A (> 78 mm).
Sized by weight,  A (> 139 gr) – F (≥ 74 -83 gr).

We comply with the EU quality standards contained in Regulation (EC) No 1580/2007, which specify that imports of fresh fruit and vegetables from third countries must comply with the EU’s general marketing standards or their equivalent.

Packing

Passiflora edulis packaging requirements differ by customer and market segment. Your fruit will be packed in such a way as to offer proper protection for the produce, guaranteeing the required resistance and the conditions to be transported, always maintaining quality in the products.
Also, developing packing using less natural resources and helps reduce the use of water, energy and the emission of gases that cause the greenhouse effect and the production of volatile organic compounds.
AIR CARGO:
For Europe boxes of 2.5 Kg are used, i.e. for a euro pallet, 120 boxes (1 pallet) are shipped; which equates to 300 kg of fruit.
SEA CARGO:
Boxes with a capacity of 2,5 kg are used for exports to Europe and USA, i.e. for a 40-foot container, 6400 boxes (20 pallets) are shipped; which equates to 16000 kg of fruit.

Cold chain

Sending exotic fruits by sea or air cargo, be subject to a permanent process of continuous improvement, as well as updates on new packaging methodologies, individual wrapping, bags with special coatings and the application of controlled atmospheres, to always guarantee the cold chain. The conservation at 5 – 9ºC and 85% of relative humidity, delays the maturation process and prevents the excessive dehydration of the passion fruit, which allows a refrigerated estimated useful life of up 30 days.

Usually marketed fresh, high-Andean fruits are highly demanded by consumers and considered important for the exportation potential. Among them, purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis), that is largely accepted in European markets.

This fruit also is known as gulupa, comes originally from southern Colombia, Ecuador, and Perú. In Colombia, it is found in the regions of Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Tolima, and Huila, between 1400 and 2300 masl, with temperature ranges between 15 and 20ºC, where is better adapted to lands, with the soil is well-drained and sun all year.

It has an oval or round shape, it’s between 4 and 10 cm in diameter. The harvested fruit contains the highest concentration of TSS (15.9 ºBrix) and also begins to increase the pH (from 3.0 to 3.6), while ATT decreases (13%).

Due to its nutrient profile, passion fruit (passiflora edulis) may offer various health benefits. Is a good source of fibre, vitamin C, and vitamin A.
